William Tishler on Jensen at CBG

We are lucky to live in a large regional metropolitan area that can sustain some vital institutions. But given these rough economic times, educational programs are rarely what receive the sexy funding. On Friday October 1st from 7 - 8:30 pm, the Chicago Botanic Garden is offering a class by one of our regional landscape experts: William Tishler. As a professor of landscape architect and the author of Midwestern Landscape Architecture he is well-qualified to discuss that evening's timely topic: "Nature and People: The Landscape Legacy of Jens Jensen." As September marks Jensen's 150th, many excellent programs are being offered.[I hope to be one of them when I give a walk on Native Plants and How to Incorporate Them in Ornamental Gardens on 10/2 from 1 - 3 pm at Humboldt Park as part of Dina Petrakis' Naturalist Photo Essay "A Year in Humboldt Park."]

This is a purely selfish post as last time I heard Bill Tishler speak at CBG, there were only eight people attending. This is such a great opportunity: I hope more people sign up and the class actually happens. Let's show that Chicago can support sophisticated garden concepts & events.

Call (847) 835-8261 or visit Chicago Botanic Garden website to register.

I've heard Bill Tishler a couple of times and also seen his film about Jensen. Well worth the time.

I used to tape his UW (University of the Air) lecture series on vernacular architecture that ran on local TV at 6 a.m. Then I would come home and watch it and actually take notes — it was that fascinating!

How interesting Linda.
Unfortunately, last I heard only five signed up (3 from me) and so, unless more sign up, class won't run :(
