Some Images I Like from Guatemala: Quetzaltenango By Car
Or Xela as it is known, has very dramatic weather and shifts of light.
The nearby volcanoes and their activity also make an impression.

I'm glad you took your good camera on this trip. The first photo of the light filled clouds is very dramatic, as is the one of volcanoes. And I also like the painted vehicle barely seen on the right side of the middle picture. (at least that's what I think it is.)
Good eye Altoon! That white reflecting object is why I took that photo: it's the front of a bus and such contrast with the sky. As for latter: very hard to catch the volcano in the lens while navigating hairpin turns leaving Xela. I wanted to show our altitude.
You know, when I left Xela 18 years ago, I never went back again! So I enjoy all the photos that you send from the high altiplano. Not wanting to freeze, I will stay right here at 5050'.
By the way, Z. just left and said he enjoyed being with you at the exhibition and meeting you.
Yes, when I tell people I'm going to Guatemala, they assume I will be in warm climes. In the mountains however, it is always cold at night, especially in Xela as you experienced. Daytime temps depend on season, but up in the villages, usually b/w 50s and 70s F. In Antigua, where you are, I am always grateful that it is about 10 degrees F warmer sleeping weather.
Always a shock (good and bad) to see these posts with pictures attached. Of course, in the midst of much privation I am mentally oohing and aahing over the textiles. And on a cold rainy day here, we are more than thankful for all we have. I am not listening to or reading any negative political stuff at the moment. Trying to keep a hopeful mindset while we keep on keeping on.
